Helpful Tips and Benefits of Renting a Car during Vacation

Are you planning of renting a car on your holiday vacation? Having a Hertz rental car available throughout your stay is a good opportunity to increase your sense of independence and gain wonderful experience and memories.
Here are some more great benefits and helpful tips for renting a car when you’re on holiday:
  •  Hiring a car during vacation gives you a great feeling of being free. With a map or a GPS, you can go wherever and whenever you want without worrying about public transportation. If you suddenly decided to go on a different place or if the weather isn’t agreeing with your plans, you can easily change your destination unlike if you’re relying on pre-booked coaches, you may not be able to change your arrangements easily.
  •  If you suddenly had the urge to visit someone near your vacation place, you can easily pack up your bags and go spend a night or two without any hassle. Once you’ve set out in your Hertz rental car, you can readily travel to different places, wander to different cities and meet different people.
  •  The convenience of having a rental car means you don’t have to spend your time waiting for the bus or the train. This can really be uncomfortable, if you are in a tropical country and the temperature is too hot. If you have your own car, you are the master of your own schedule and you don’t have to put up with the nuances of having to travel with strangers.
  • Travelling with kids around can be a challenging experience. They require more bathroom breaks than adults and if you’re travelling in a hire car, you’ll be able to stop for breaks. Aside from this, you can also easily stop if you want to stretch your legs or if you just want to buy snacks. You’ll also have a peace of mind knowing that they are sitting in child car seats which are not available on public transport and that if they ever have tantrums, they won’t disturb anyone.
  • If you hire a car, you have the total freedom of doing whatever you want. For example, you can play loud music, kick off your shoes, lie back in your seat, eat snack, drinks, and read books or anything else you that comes to your mind.
  •  Hiring a car can be a lot cheaper than the total cost of your public transport. If you always take a taxi in your whereabouts, you’ll see that the fare you paid is bigger than the fee of your rental car.
  • Exploring and finding new roads is part of the fun of travelling and if you rent a car, you may stumble upon great places that you wouldn’t have known otherwise.
  • If you have a late night after exploring, you won’t have to wait in an unknown area waiting for a taxi because you can simply go home.
  • You can take a lot of “selfie” photos along the way by stopping your car somewhere safe to capture photos of the picturesque views.
TIPS
  1.  Book early if you are going to hot destination places like Boracay and Puerto Galera.
  2.  Find out the minimum age requirement of the rental company before renting a car.
  3. Rates may vary daily, so during your free time, check the prices several different times.
  4. Car classes vary in different rental cars. A defined luxury car in one doesn’t mean it would also be the same in the other agency.
  5. Make sure to know what the cancellation policy is before providing personal details like your credit card number.
  6. Don’t rent a CD/DVD player or a GPS navigational system unless you need it.
  7. Inspect the car thoroughly before driving it off the lot. If there are dents, scratches or any damages, take pictures then report it.
  8. Familiarize yourself with the locations. Research the places you’re planning to visit or bring a map.
  9. If you are a frequent traveler, join a rental agency’s membership group and take advantage of the special offers, discounts, promos and freebies.
  10. Ask how much is cost per day of higher-class rental car. You may be able to have a more comfortable car for an affordable price.
  11. During long trips, bring along your favorite books, music, phone and charger.
  12. Return the car early if you’re flying to avoid having delays.

11 Tips When Driving in the Philippines

Driving in the Philippines requires utmost patience and total concentration. Being on the road is a daunting experience since you will not only share the road to other cars, you will also share it to jeepneys, tricycles, motorcycles, trucks and most especially buses that drives like crazy.  So, if you want to go from Point A to Point B in this country safe and sound, I suggest you read on!

  1. Keep cool.  Remain calm.  Stay collected. – The first thing you need to do while driving in the Philippines is to keep in mind that you need to stay cool and remain calm even in the midst of frustrating situations. As the saying goes, “Anger, if not restrained, is frequently more hurtful to us than the injury that provokes it.”
  1. Be courteous and never take other drivers’ behaviors on the road seriously/personally- Some Filipino drivers are very possessive of the roads they’re driving on, so instead of egging them on a fight, just smile and be on your way.
  1.  Stay alert, be aware of your surroundings, and practice defensive driving–always.  – No one knows when accidents will occur. Remember; don’t ever, ever drive if you, or anyone else, think that you may have had too much to drink.
  1. Buckle up, use your side and rear-view mirrors, and maintain a safe distance all the time.  – Before driving, buckle up, and maintain a safe distance from other cars, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
  1. Plan your route ahead- Planning your destination beforehand can save you from a lot of trouble ahead. If research your route diligently, you can avoid traffic jams and road blocks because you already know which roads to take.
  1. Leave early if you can– Here in the Philippines, being stuck on traffic is almost a part of everyone’s daily routine. So if you want to avoid this, you have to leave your house 2 to 3 hours ahead of time.
  1. Tune in to traffic reports on the radio– Regularly tune in to your favorite radio station, because most of the radio stations report about the traffic. This is truly helpful for the drivers because they will know which roads to travel.
  1. Be mindful of pedestrians, motorcycles, tricycles, “kuligligs” and bicycles. – Here in the Philippines, when some drivers see a pedestrian crossing the road, they will just continuously beep their horn and drive fast. This is not always the instance, but be careful nevertheless and stay attentive.
  1. Leave your ride in a safe car park – Don’t park in unfamiliar dark places, just go and find the nearest and safest car park service to leave your vehicle.
  1. Make sure your car is in good running condition all the time. – Always check your car before using it to make sure that it’s in good condition.
  1. Avoid honking your horn at the slightest provocation and don’t make a habit of flashing your headlights to on-coming traffic, – Don’t do it, because it’s so rude. “A moment of patience in a moment of anger prevents a thousand moments of regret.” – Ali Ibn Talib

Advantages of Renting a Car over Driving Your Own

Renting a car is a popular way for people to travel to their destination. It may be a business trip, family vacation, date, or a holiday leisure time. Whatever the circumstances, renting a car can have many advantages over driving your own. There a lot of car rental agencies to choose from, like Hertz and Thrifty but before you decide to pick your rental company, take a moment to read these great benefits of hiring a car:

  • If you live in a city like Manila where there are a lot of vehicles you can choose from like jeepney, bus, UV Express, MRT or LRT, you may have found that buying your own car is not necessary.  If you ever need to attend events beyond the reach of you usual mode of transportation, renting a car is your best choice.
  • If you’re planning on travelling with a large group, renting a large vehicle such as an SUV or Minivan will allow you to travel comfortably. Some rental companies may also be able to provide cars that can hold 9-15 passengers. Renting a car gives you the flexibility to choose what size car you want.
  • You can considerably lower your maintenance and repair costs if you rent a car whenever you are in a business trip or holiday vacation, thus eliminating the risk of having a wear and tear on your car.
  • If you’re having an extended trip and your car is an older model, it would be better if you rent a car because this can help you save on gasoline fees. Some rental agencies have newer cars that have good gas mileage.
  • You don’t ever have to worry about a car breakdown. Your rental agency will help you or provide you a new car.
  • If you would like to travel at a difficult road, renting a Jeep or an SUV is a better choice because it can take you to places that your own car can’t.
  • Instead of travelling with your car to get to your vacation destination, it’s better to travel in an airplane then rent a car upon arriving because by this, you will get to spend more time sightseeing and enjoying your holiday instead of being stuck in your car for travelling time.
  • If you are planning on buying a vehicle, renting your chosen type of car for a day or two will give you an extended test drive to discover the nuances about the car that you wouldn’t know otherwise.
  • During special occasion, you will be able to choose the right car that you think is suited for the event. Whether it’s a camping trip, a date or a vacation, renting makes a great option.
  • A rental car may help you project what certain image you want to send across your workmates or associates. Depends on what you want to be perceived, a new, clean SUV may be preferable to your usual car.
